North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced that the DPRK will introduce a new policy aimed at the simultaneous development of nuclear forces and conventional armed forces, according to North Korea’s state agency KCNA.

During a meeting of the Workers’ Party of Korea leadership, Kim Jong Un stated that the country will soon present a new military policy.

According to Kim, the new course is intended to become a key factor in strengthening the nation’s defense capabilities and ensuring national security.

He emphasized that the nuclear arsenal would remain the central pillar of the deterrence strategy, but at the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the combat capabilities of the ground, naval, and air forces to counter any challenges from enemies.

Kim Jong Un also instructed the military leadership to prepare a detailed plan for army modernization, including the development of new weapons, strengthening personnel training, and improving the command system.

Analysts note that such a statement may indicate Pyongyang’s intention to reinforce not only its nuclear shield but also its conventional armed forces, which would allow the DPRK to act more flexibly in the region.

The international community traditionally takes a critical stance toward any DPRK steps related to the expansion of its nuclear program. The US, South Korea, and Japan are expected to issue reactions to Kim’s speech in the near future.

It should be recalled that Seoul’s intelligence reported that North Korea lost about 4,700 troops in the Kursk direction, including 600 confirmed dead.

In exchange for sending troops and supplying weapons to Russia, the DPRK receives assistance from Moscow in the form of spy satellites, drones, and anti-aircraft missiles.
