New Zealand has introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia, Belarus, Iran, and North Korea. Individuals as well as ships of the shadow fleet came under economic restrictions, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand.

It is noted that the New Zealand government has introduced new sanctions against 18 individuals and legal entities connected to the Russian military-industrial complex, as well as several actors and political figures from North Korea, Iran, and Belarus. Additionally, 27 vessels of the Russian shadow fleet were subject to economic restrictions.

It is known that among the Russian companies that came under sanctions are enterprises of the aviation industry sector, including the commercial operator of unmanned aerial systems Aeroscan and the developer and manufacturer of combat aircraft OKB named after A.S. Yakovlev, as well as Russia’s largest producer of automatic weapons and ammunition — the Kalashnikov Concern.

New Zealand’s sanctions against the Russian Federation

The first law on sanctions against Russia in New Zealand came into effect in March 2022. In the first package, more than 1,800 individuals and legal entities were subject to economic restrictions.

New Zealand also expanded sanctions against the Russian Federation in 2024. The measures were aimed at organizations associated with Russia’s occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. At that time, Peters noted that New Zealand is acting in coordination with international partners, joining more than 35 countries.
