New head of transitional government appointed in Syria
Mohammed al-Bashir was appointed Syria's caretaker prime minister. He will lead the transitional government until March 1, 2025, Al Jazeera reports.
According to media reports, al-Bashir has close ties with "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham," an insurgent military coalition that led the capture of Damascus.
Furthermore, BBC informs that the newly appointed interim head of government also chaired the administration created by the rebels, which controls areas in the northwest of Syria.
Fall of regime in Syria
In November, large-scale combat clashes began in Syria between the rebels of the Islamist group "Tahrir al-Sham," the Syrian National Army, and the army of dictator Bashar al-Assad. According to the insurgent group, their goal was to overthrow Bashar al-Assad's regime. Meanwhile, the dictator has already fled to Moscow.
As Reuters reports, Türkiye was aware of the rebels' plans to overthrow Assad's regime in advance.
