Netanyahu states that Iran makes big mistake and pays for it
On Tuesday, October 1, Iran launched a missile attack on Israel. However, it was unsuccessful, reports Reuters.
An official at a policy and security meeting emphasized that Iran made a grave mistake that it will pay for.
"Tonight, Iran again attacked Israel with hundreds of missiles. This attack failed. It was thwarted thanks to Israel’s air defense system, which is the most advanced in the world. Iran made a big mistake tonight - and it will pay for it. The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to retaliate against our enemies," Netanyahu stated.
Separately, Israel's representative to the UN declared that Iran would soon feel the consequences of its actions, and the response would be painful.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reports that Israel has warned Iran that in response to any attack on Israeli territory, it would strike directly at Iranian nuclear or oil facilities.
Continuing on the topic, in a comment to CNN, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that America will coordinate actions with Israel in response to Iran's missile attack, calling it a significant escalation. He also promised that there would be consequences.
"Of course there must be consequences for Iran for this attack. We’ve made clear that there must be consequences. I’m not going to get into what those consequences are today, but they are things on which we will be coordinating with our Israeli counterparts," he stated.
Miller did not specify whether Iran's nuclear program would be a legitimate target for Israeli retaliation following the Iranian missile attack, but he noted that the US plans to discuss these consequences with our Israeli colleagues before speaking about them publicly.
"This is not to say I’m ruling anything out and that I’m ruling anything in, but I would answer any question this way, which is, we want to have these conversations directly with our Israeli counterparts over the coming days," the State Department representative said.
Additionally, he mentioned that the Iranian missile attack was partially thwarted due to coordination between the US, Israel, and partners, although Miller did not specify which countries were included.
Notably, following Netanyahu's statement, Reuters reported a new warning from Iran. Specifically, the Iranian armed forces cautioned Israel's allies against direct intervention.
They declared that they would strike at the bases and interests of Israel's supporters in the region if they intervened directly in Tehran's actions. The Iranian side also added that any response from Israel to Iran's missile attack would be met with massive destruction of Israeli infrastructure.
