Negotiations to end Ukraine war very much in full swing - Vance

US Vice President JD Vance stated that negotiations to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict are in full swing, according to an interview with the politician on the online show of Charlie Kirk.
US Vice President JD Vance stated that negotiations to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict are ongoing, and sometimes involve pressure, friendliness, promises of rewards, or threats of punishment. He noted that this "dirty, routine work" is what the American people elected the Trump administration for.
He explained that sometimes there are situations where both the Russians and Ukrainians are frustrated. Periodically, there are cases where they want to give up on trying to negotiate, but, according to him, US President Donald Trump doesn’t let that happen.
"You know, that is the nature of negotiations: you're going back and forth. And sometimes, you want to throw up your hands, but that's what President Trump doesn’t let us do that. He forces us to continually go back to the table, continually try to find a solution, to bring the sides closer together. And that really is sort of where this thing is right now," said the US Vice President.
He added that Russia and Ukraine have different visions for peaceful settlement. But the breakthrough is that the US forced both sides to talk about ending the quarrels (meaning talking about ending the war). At the same time, the US Vice President noted that he is not 100% sure what Washington can do. But there’s more optimism now than before.
'What one side needs is different from what the other side needs. And the job of diplomacy is to try to bring those two sides together. I’m not 100% sure that we're gonna be able to do it. But I think we are trying very hard, and I feel more optimistic today than I did two weeks ago, and two weeks ago I felt more optimistic than two months ago," Vance concluded.
Other statements from Vance
Let’s remind that in the same interview, the US Vice President expressed confidence that the prolonged war could lead to a demographic collapse, nuclear strike, and irreversible losses for Ukraine. He believes that if the war is not stopped now, the Ukrainians will not be able to win it.
"I think there is this weird idea among mainstream media that if this goes on for just another few years, the Russians will collapse, the Ukrainians with take their territory back, and everything will go back to the way it was before the war. That is not the reality that we live in," Vance said.
