Navalny's team not yet confirm his death
The team of Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny has not confirmed his death yet, stating that there is no evidence, according to Navalny's press secretary Kira Yarmysh.
"We currently have no confirmation. Alexei's lawyer is currently flying to Kharp. As soon as we have any information, we will inform you," she wrote on X.
Navalny's lawyer, Leonid Solovyov, refused to comment to Russian media over the decision of the politician's family.
Russia announced Navalny's death
Today, February 16, the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug reported the death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny. It is stated that he allegedly died in a penal colony where he was serving his sentence.
In August 2020, Navalny was poisoned with Novichok. The Russian politician fell unconscious on a plane en route from Tomsk to Moscow, after which he was taken to the Charité clinic in Germany, where he underwent treatment.
In early 2021, Navalny returned to Russia, where he was detained. Several criminal cases were immediately initiated against the opposition figure, including extremism, slander, etc.
On August 4, 2023, Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
