Navalny's remains handed over to his mother
The body of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was handed over to his mother today, February 24, says Navalny's press secretary Kira Yarmysh.
"Alexei's body was handed over to his mother. Many thanks to everyone who demanded this with us. Lyudmila Ivanovna is still in Salekhard. The funeral is still pending," Yarmysh said.
She said that she did not know whether the authorities would prevent the funeral from being held the way the family of the Russian oppositionist wanted it to be.
Navalny's death
On February 16, the Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District reported the death of Russian "oppositionist" Alexei Navalny in a penal colony. He was serving his sentence there.
Russian media reported that Navalny had allegedly suffered a blood clot during a walk.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the "oppositionist" was killed by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, like thousands of others who were tortured.
