On Saturday, January 25, Elon Musk joined the launch of the electoral campaign for the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD), speaking at its convention. According to him, AfD is Germany's best hope, reports Die Welt.

The renowned billionaire appeared via video link. In his address, Musk reaffirmed his support for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and also referenced Julius Caesar.

"The German people are really an ancient nation which goes back thousand of years. I even read Julius Caesar was very impressed [by] the German tribes," he said.

According to Musk, AfD leader Alice Weidel would be very beneficial to Germany as chancellor. Additionally, the businessman accused the current German government of being uninterested in the health and well-being of the German people, instead aggressively suppressing freedom of thought, and stated that the AfD must fight against this.

"It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values," Musk added, to applause from around 4,500 supporters of the Alternative for Germany.

Federal elections in Germany

The German federal elections will take place next month, on February 23. The intensive phase of the election campaign has now begun. According to polls, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) continues to lead with a significant margin over the Alternative for Germany (AfD), while the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), led by Christian Lindner— the party from which Olaf Scholz is again running for the chancellorship— is facing concerns about securing a place in parliament.

Also, it should be recalled that on December 20, 2024, billionaire Elon Musk expressed support for the AfD. In January, he held an online broadcast on the social network X with the party leader.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the German analytical center CeMAS tracked hundreds of posts on the German platform of the social network X over the past month, showing typical examples of the Russian disinformation campaign Doppelgaenger against the West, which had previously been condemned by the governments of Germany, the US, and France. The center concluded that the Russian disinformation campaign aims to support the far-right AfD, undermine major German parties, and heighten concerns about the economy ahead of the elections.
