Pope Francis has died due to a cerebral hemorrhage, doctors said. The probable cause of death was a stroke, La Repubblica reports.

Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church, died peacefully, doctors at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, where he was treated, confirmed.

According to the doctors, the death was the result of serious cerebral hemorrhage problems, and the possibility that a stroke was the cause is being investigated.

The doctors emphasize that there is no connection between this death and previous respiratory problems that led to the hospitalization of Pope Francis in February this year.

At the time, his condition was attributed to a respiratory tract infection, but it is said to have had no obvious impact on further developments.

Pope Francis died on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. He was the 266th head of the Roman Catholic Church and had held the position since March 13, 2013.

Pope Francis has repeatedly spoken out about Russia's aggression against Ukraine, calling for peace and an end to violence. He called the war a shameful catastrophe for all mankind. In general, his position on the Russian-Ukrainian war was based on calls for peace, dialogue, and an end to violence.
