Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu held a nearly 15-hour press conference this Saturday. He broke the world record set by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who spoke with the press for 14 hours in 2019, reports France 24.

The 46-year-old Maldives president's conversation with journalists lasted from morning until midnight. He began the press marathon at 10:00 AM local time and wrapped it up after 14 hours and 54 minutes. During the marathon, Muizzu took short breaks for prayers.

The lengthy conversation with the media was dedicated to World Press Freedom Day. About two dozen media representatives attended the event, and refreshments were provided for them.

According to France 24, this is not the first record associated with Maldives leaders. In 2009, former president Mohamed Nasheed held the first underwater cabinet meeting in history to draw attention to the threat of rising sea levels flooding the Maldives.

Zelenskyy's record-breaking press conference

On October 10, 2019, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a press conference that lasted over 14 hours. The event took place at an informal venue — Kyiv Food Market — where journalists entered in groups and took turns asking questions.
