Lithuanian PM: Termination of Ukrainian operation in Kursk region depends on Putin
Russia can stop Ukraine's operation in the Kursk region. To do so, it needs to end the war against Ukraine, states Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.
“Russia started this war. Ukraine is defending itself. I am surprised that sometimes people think that the war can only take place on the territory of Ukraine. But this is simply not fair. Russia should bear the risks and responsibility for what may happen on their territory,” she said.
Šimonytė emphasized that the world is watching what is happening in the Kursk region. The prime minister believes that Putin does not care about his people or his borders, and this is not surprising.
“He is not worried about protecting his people, because the value of life in Russia is completely different from the value of life in our countries. The answer is simple. Russia can stop all these operations, in Kursk, anywhere. It can simply stop the war and we will return to peaceful life. Therefore, stopping the operation in Kursk depends on Putin,” the head of the Lithuanian government said.
Armed Forces operation in Kursk region
Since August 6, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been conducting an offensive in the Kursk region. The defense forces have advanced tens of kilometers deep into enemy lines in the border areas.
Ukraine controls the town of Sudzha, where there is a gas metering station that ensures the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine.
A military commandant's office was also established in the Kursk region, headed by Ukrainian General Eduard Moskaliov.
