Lithuania held a second round of presidential elections on Sunday, May 26. The incumbent President Gitanas Nausėda and the current Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite were running for the post.

The voting in Lithuania has now ended and the vote count is underway. The Central Election Commission has received data from 76% of polling stations in 58 out of 60 municipalities.

According to the preliminary results, incumbent President Nausėda wins the election with a significant margin. He was supported by 78.87% of voters.

According to the website of the Central Election Commission, Prime Minister Šimonite received the support of 19.59% of voters. The vote count is ongoing and the final results may differ from the current ones.

This will be the second presidential term for Nausėda. He became the head of Lithuania after the 2019 elections. Back then, he won 65.68% of the vote and also beat Šimonite in the second round.

In March 2021, Nausėda made his first official visit to Kyiv and delivered a statement in support of Ukraine at the Verkhovna Rada.

Lithuanian presidential election

The first round of the presidential election in Lithuania took place on May 12. According to the results of the voting, Nausėda and Šimonite advanced to the second round.

Besides, Dainius Žalimas (Freedom Party), Gedrimas Jeglinskas (Democratic Union "Vardan Lietuvos"), Andrius Mazuronis (Labor Party), as well as Ignas Vegele, Remigijus Žemaitaitaitis and Eduardas Vaitkus took part in the first round of the presidential elections in Lithuania.
