Lithuanian customs officials have issued a protocol against a company involved in car exports for violating sanctions against Russia, according to the Lithuanian Customs Department.

The company, registered in Lithuania, was fined €13.6 million, and six semi-trailers were seized and confiscated.

Customs authorities said that the company failed to comply with international sanctions during transactions with firms from Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Türkiye, which led to the seizure of the vehicles and was considered a violation of the sanctions.

This is not the first time companies have faced fines for breaching international sanctions following increased scrutiny by Lithuanian customs.

EU sanctions against Russia

Since March 2014, the EU has imposed sanctions on Russia due to the annexation of Crimea and the destabilization of Ukraine. Following February 24, 2022, in response to Russia's military aggression, the EU significantly expanded the sanctions, adding numerous new individuals and organizations to the list and taking measures to weaken Russia's economy and technology.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the EU has introduced 14 packages of sanctions against Russia.
