Many people believe that dogs require active walks and constant movement. However, there are breeds that prefer a calm and laid-back lifestyle. This knowledge can be useful when choosing a furry companion.

Express highlights five dog breeds that require the least amount of activity.

Rachel Rodgers, founder of the Nose to Trail service, which focuses on solving dog behavior issues and strengthening the bond between dogs and their owners, identified five dog breeds requiring minimal physical exercise.

She emphasized that some breeds are naturally less active and require significantly less physical activity.

Rachel noted that smaller and toy breeds tend to be less active. Breeds that require minimal exercise include:

  • French Bulldogs
  • Chihuahuas
  • Shih Tzus
  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

French Bulldogs are known for their low energy levels and are content with short play sessions or light walks.

Chihuahuas tire quickly, and their exercise is usually limited to brief outdoor strolls or active indoor play.

Shih Tzus enjoy short walks and spend much of their time in the company of their owners.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels prefer leisurely walks and require plenty of attention.

Another breed that may surprise many is the retired Greyhound. While these dogs are accustomed to intense training and racing, after their careers, they often need far less physical activity than expected.

Greyhounds are satisfied with short walks around the block and can even make do with light outdoor exercise. For their happiness, they need mental stimulation and interaction with their owners.

Rachel also advised those seeking a dog with minimal physical demands to consider adopting senior dogs. Older dogs typically require less exercise and are often easier to entertain with toys or simple activities at home.
