Latvian Foreign Ministry calls for allowing Ukraine to strike at Russia
Ukraine should be allowed to strike at those regions of Russia where enemy planes are taking to the skies to attack Ukrainian cities, according to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Latvia, Baiba Braže, before the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
"This does not mean that Ukraine will not adhere to a very clear discipline in complying with these restrictions. They have been exemplary in the past in actually applying certain restrictions without provoking the situation. But limiting the defense of Ukraine is not right in itself, so we will continue to insist on this (lifting the restrictions - ed.)," Braže said.
Strikes on Russian territory
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine's allies have been actively supporting Kyiv not only in the humanitarian and financial spheres, but also in the military. At the same time, the condition for the provision of weapons was their use within the sovereign territories of Ukraine.
After the offensive on the Kharkiv region began in May 2024, as well as the intensification of massive shelling and attacks on border settlements, more and more allies began to lift the above restriction.
During the summit of the European Political Community, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the airfields from which Russia attacks Ukraine should be destroyed.
