Kremlin preparing new strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, official warns

Russia is likely preparing for a new strike on Ukraine. The Kremlin still hopes to force Ukrainians to surrender through attacks on the energy sector, Andrii Kovalenko, former head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, reports.

According to him, Russia is clearly preparing for another attack on Ukraine. Kovalenko believes the Kremlin continues to rely on strikes against critical infrastructure.

“Putin still believes that he can break Ukrainians by cutting off their electricity and heat,” the former head of the Center for Countering Disinformation said.

He recalled that the current strategy of the Russian leadership echoes the Kremlin’s previous plans for Ukraine. In particular, Kovalenko compared it with Putin’s belief that Russian troops would be able to capture Kyiv in three days.

At the same time, he said Russia is increasingly facing the consequences of the war on its own territory.

“(Putin — ed.) believed in ‘Kyiv in three days.’ But he is also bringing the war more and more onto Russian territory,” Kovalenko concluded.

As previously reported, Russia is planning attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and logistics ahead of the winter campaign. To this end, Russia continues to modernize its attack drones, making them faster, more maneuverable and more resistant to countermeasures.

One such development is a new modification of the long-range Geran-4 attack drone. Russia has upgraded its navigation system, engine and warhead, which is expected to improve the drone’s effectiveness.
