Killing of Ukrainian woman in Czechia - Police disclose investigation details

In the Moravian-Silesian Region of Czechia, police have completed an investigation into the death of a Ukrainian woman whose disappearance was initially treated as a missing-person case but was later found to be the result of a deliberate killing, according to the Czech outlet iDNES.cz.
Discovery of missing woman
Local police reported that the 22-year-old Ukrainian woman was declared missing on 25 November, although acquaintances had last seen her several days earlier.
A passerby discovered her body on 3 December in the Olešná stream near Frýdek-Místek. A forensic examination confirmed she died as a result of violent actions.
"She was strangled. Together with our colleagues in Frýdek-Místek, we launched a large-scale investigation involving a significant number of officers, canine units, and divers," said Lukáš Richter, regional head of the 1st Department of General Crime. He added that despite the passage of time, investigators succeeded in obtaining key evidence.
Suspect arrest
A 33-year-old Ukrainian man was detained the day after the body was found. According to investigators, he has admitted involvement.
Police said the meeting between the two stemmed from a financial dispute: "The motive was their mutual disagreement. The suspect had promised to return money owed to her from previous work, which was supposed to serve as a deposit for her wages. In this way, he lured her away from her residence."
Both individuals had been living in Czechia legally, though the man had been in the country longer, while the woman arrived after the start of the war.
Investigation progress
The suspect remains in custody and is cooperating with police. He faces 12 to 20 years in prison. This is the eighth murder recorded in the region since the beginning of the year, with all cases now solved. Last year, 14 such cases were reported.
Police in Ukraine recently detained three residents of Kirovohrad region suspected of involvement in the death of a serviceman. His body was found in a local settlement, after which investigators identified the suspects and opened a pretrial investigation.
In another case, authorities in Lviv region are investigating an incident in which a man attacked staff from a territorial recruitment center during a public notification effort. One employee was injured as a result.
