The shooting of the movie "The Wizard of the Kremlin" about Russia in the 1990s has started in Riga. The film is directed by Frenchman Olivier Assayas, and British actor Jude Law plays one of the main roles, i.e. Putin. The first photos from the filming have already appeared on the network, where you can see the created images.

Thus, on the set, Law appeared in makeup that embodies the appearance of the Russian dictator. He was dressed in a suit with a yellow tie, patent leather shoes, and a black raincoat. Next to him are actors dressed as diplomats and leaders of other countries.

What we know about the movie The Wizard of the Kremlin

The upcoming political thriller by French director Olivier Assayas is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Italian writer Giuliano da Empoli. The book covers the period of Putin's rise to power, the Second Chechen War, the Kursk submarine tragedy, and the Orange Revolution in Ukraine.

The film will tell the story of the fictional character Vadim Baranov, an enthusiastic artist who unexpectedly becomes a PR officer for FSB (former KGB) officer Vladimir Putin at the beginning of his political career.

Working at the very heart of the Russian government, Baranov mixes truth with lies, news with propaganda, and manages society like one big reality show. The prototype of this character is considered to be the former aide to the head of the Russian government, Vladislav Surkov.

Baranov will be played by Oscar nominee Paul Dano, who became famous for his portrayal of complex characters in the films There Will Be Blood, Love and Mercy, and Batman.

What Jude Law said about playing Putin

It became known in January last year that he had agreed to play Putin. At the time, the actor admitted that he was very excited about working on the character. In an interview with Deadline, he compared the project to climbing Mount Everest.

"I say this hesitantly because I haven't started working on it yet. I mean, I've already started, but at the moment it's like Everest that I have to climb, so I'm standing in the foothills and thinking: "Oh my God, what did I say?". That's often what happens when I say that. I think: "Oh my God, how am I going to do this?" But in any case, it's up to me to decide," he shared his impressions.
