Vice President of the US, JD Vance, announced his intention to visit Greenland. The purpose of the visit will be to assess the safety of the country's population and external threats, according to a post on the official social media page of the high-ranking official.

The visit is scheduled for Friday, March 28. The high-ranking official will visit US military personnel on Greenland's northwest coast and review security matters.

Vance noted that many countries pose a threat to Greenland, its territory, and waterways, as well as to the US, Canada, and the residents of the island nation.

"Speaking for President Trump, we want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think it's important to protecting the security of the entire world," the vice president stated.

He concluded by saying that the leaders of the US and Denmark had allegedly ignored Greenland for too long.

"It's also been bad for the security of the entire world. We think we can take things in a different direction, so I'm gonna go check it out," Vance added.

Trump's claims on Greenland

US President Donald Trump, as during his first term, has expressed his intention to purchase Greenland. According to him, American control over the island is crucial for international security.

However, the government of Greenland has firmly rejected this idea, stating that the country and its territory belong to its people and are under partial protection of Denmark, a NATO member state.

Recently, it was announced that a US delegation will visit Greenland, including Michael Waltz, Vice President’s wife Usha Vance, and US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.

Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede has called on the international community to respond to such foreign interference.
