In Italy, security has been tightened for two members of the government. The reason for strengthening the security protocol was the recent murder in the US of far-right activist Charlie Kirk, according to La Repubblica.

On Friday, September 12, Italy’s Ministry of the Interior issued a circular providing for a review and possible strengthening of measures concerning risk profiles of two Deputy Prime Ministers - Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini.

Initially, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was also included on the list, but she was later removed, as no security threats were identified.

Tajani announced that, as of today, September 18, the security level for him, as well as for Deputy Prime Minister Salvini, has been raised due to the unfavorable security situation in the country.

The protection for both officials will be elevated to an exceptional level. This entails the use of two to three armored vehicles, each with three agents.

By their own choice, since the beginning of their terms, Tajani and Salvini had been using second-level security. After Kirk’s murder, security services deemed this regime insufficient.

Murder of Charlie Kirk

On September 10, on the campus of Utah Valley University in the US, far-right activist Charlie Kirk was killed.

The following day, the suspect, Tyler Robinson, turned himself in to the police. He has been charged with multiple offenses, placed in the Utah County Jail without the possibility of bail, and is undergoing a mental health evaluation.

The suspect faces either life imprisonment or the death penalty.

The motive for Kirk’s murder by Tyler has not yet been determined. However, investigators have established that the suspect was a supporter of far-left ideology.
