Italy ready to support sanctions against Russian LNG
Rome has no reason to oppose EU sanctions against Russian LNG, as Italy can do without Russian gas, says Italian Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
Piketto-Fratin said that Italy has become free of Russian natural gas and will have no problems with the proposed EU sanctions package on liquefied natural gas (LNG) being considered by the European Commission.
"Italy is right now in a condition to even do without Russian gas altogether," the minister said.
Sanctions against Russian LNG
Recently, Western media reported that Russia is preparing for a four-year stagnation in the LNG sector due to sanctions.
Last year, the United States imposed sanctions against the Russian Arctic LNG 2 project.
Recently, Berlin has proposed to impose a ban on Russian LNG imports to the European Union.
