A well-known medical expert from Surrey Live shared his advice on what people should do first in 2025. This applies to those individuals who want to lose weight and change their lives for the better.

What all people 40+ should buy

The expert said that the top priority should be to buy a blood pressure monitor, as it can detect serious diseases at an early stage that can have life-threatening consequences, including heart attacks.

“If there is one thing I would recommend, it is to buy a home blood pressure monitor (for everyone over 40, younger if you have a strong family history) and monitor your blood pressure at home,” the doctor said.

It should be noted that many people have high blood pressure and do not know about it; it is often called a silent killer.

Undiagnosed or poorly managed blood pressure increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, eye disease, and other things, so knowing your blood pressure numbers and keeping it at a normal level is very important.

The best time to check is after a person has rested for 20-30 minutes in a quiet environment.

“Blood pressure naturally fluctuates throughout the day, so don't worry if all the readings are not the same, but if they keep rising, see a doctor,” advises Amir Khan.

Readings that exceed 135-140/85-90 on average should be monitored by a doctor.

How to help yourself

You can help maintain your blood pressure by quitting smoking, controlling your alcohol intake, and eating a balanced diet. Also, try to move as much as possible, sleep well, and control your stress level.
