The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing for a ceasefire in Lebanon. It is set to begin at 7 p.m. local time, according to Haaretz.

The agency notes that high-ranking IDF commanders had been ordered to prepare the troops currently stationed in southern Lebanon for a ceasefire.

The Israeli military was informed that the ceasefire would begin between 7 p.m. and midnight.

The day before, a meeting between representatives of Lebanon and Israel took place in Washington, marking the start of direct negotiations between the countries, which the US had been encouraging.

Representing the US side were US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US State Department Advisor Michael Nidgem, US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa, and US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the ceasefire between the US and Iran did not apply to military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and therefore, operations in the region would continue.

The Israeli Prime Minister noted that Israel supported Trump’s initiatives regarding Iran, but the fight against Hezbollah would continue until the threat is eliminated.

Later, Netanyahu announced his intention to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon to establish peace and disarm Hezbollah.

The Israeli Prime Minister said he had given instructions to begin negotiations as soon as possible. According to Netanyahu, they should include the issues of disarming Hezbollah and establishing stable, peaceful relations.
