In the past few hours, the Israeli army has targeted several Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. This action has eliminated threats posed by terrorists that were jeopardizing the ceasefire between the parties, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Among the targeted sites were a missile launcher, a military facility, and routes along the Syrian-Lebanese border used for smuggling weapons to Hezbollah.

Ahead of the strikes, the military warned of threats to the international mechanism established under the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, which had not been addressed.

"The IDF continues to act to remove any threat to the State of Israel and will prevent any attempt by the Hezbollah terrorist organization to rebuild its forces in accordance with the ceasefire understandings," the statement reads.

Areas under attack

Lebanese media have reported Israeli airstrikes on the village of Houmine al-Faouqa in the Nabatieh district. The village is located north of the Litani River, approximately 17 kilometers from the Israeli border.

Later, Lebanese media reported additional Israeli airstrikes in the Janta area of the Beka'a Valley, near the border with Syria.

Peace agreement between Hezbollah and Israel

In September, the IDF launched a ground military operation against militants in southern Lebanon. The goal is to push the terrorists further from the Israeli border and reduce the number of attacks on Israeli territory.

Since November 27, 2024, Israel and Hezbollah have been in a ceasefire. According to the agreement, Israel committed to withdrawing its forces from Lebanon within 60 days. In return, the Lebanese Armed Forces will take control of the southern regions to prevent terrorists from re-establishing their positions.

The peace agreement was partially reached after the Israeli army eliminated almost all of Hezbollah's leadership.

On January 11, the IDF struck a group of Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon who were advancing and posed a threat.
