Israel plans change in Foreign Minister. Meet potential candidate
The government of Israel is set to approve the replacement of Eli Cohen with Israel Katz as the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, writes The Times of Israel.
This is related to a rotation agreement signed last year when the government was formed.
Cohen, who has held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs since the swearing-in of the current government, will replace Katz as the Minister of Energy for two years and then switch back for the final year of the government's term in 2026.
Both ministers will remain members of the security cabinet. It is expected that they will switch roles on January 1.
Israel Katz
Israeli politician and statesman. Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy, and Water (since 2022).
He previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy, member of the Security Cabinet of Israel, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel, and Minister of Transportation and Road Safety.
Conflict in Israel
On October 7, Hamas militants invaded Israeli territory. Terrorists not only killed but also kidnapped both military and civilian individuals. In response, Tel Aviv initiated Operation Iron Swords.
On November 24, a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began for the release of prisoners, but hostilities resumed on December 1, as Tel Aviv claims, due to violations by terrorists.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden claims that Israel is beginning to lose global support due to "indiscriminate bombings" in the Gaza Strip. In particular, the UN General Assembly voted by a majority for a resolution demanding a ceasefire.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assures that international pressure will not stop the war against Hamas.
