In Germany, Ukrainian basketball player stabbed to death due to nationality
In Dusseldorf, Germany, two Ukrainian basketball players were attacked. Unidentified men with knives attacked the boys because of their nationality, according to the Kyiv Basketball Federation.
Volodymyr Yermakov and Artem Kozachenko played for the ART Giants (U-19) youth team from Dusseldorf. The athletes were attending a competition in Germany.
Unknown persons attacked Volodymyr and Artem with knives because of their nationality. 17-year-old Volodymyr Yermakov died on the spot from his injuries, and Artem Kozachenko is now in intensive care.
"On the eve of the next match, the young basketball players were attacked with knives in the street simply because they are Ukrainians! The whole team spent the night in the hospital next to our guys. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save Yermakov, and Kozachenko remains in intensive care. The local police are already investigating the case, there were witnesses at the crime scene," the Basketball Association says.

Volodymyr used to play basketball and played in the children's teams Teivaz and 5T.E.A.M.-DUSSH-12 (born in 2006). As a member of the Ukrainian youth national team (U-16), he played at the 2022 European Championships in Bulgaria.
Social media reports that the attack was carried out by a crowd of people of Arab origin.
"In Germany, Arabs with knives attacked two players of the Ukrainian U-19 basketball team. One of the players is dead, the other is in intensive care," the statement says.
