The Israeli Defense Forces have managed to penetrate into the center of Khan Younis, a major city in the southern Gaza Strip, according to The Times of Israel.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the 98th Israeli Division "launched a combined attack on the area of ​​the city of Khan Younis, against the 'centers of gravity' of the Hamas terror organization."

The IDF specifies that within a few hours, the military breached the defense of the Hamas brigade in Khan Younis, encircled the city, and began maneuvering within it.

The troops leading the advancement seized Hamas strongholds, discovered weaponry, and intelligence materials. Numerous militants were neutralized, and dozens of destroyed tunnels were found.

Furthermore, according to the IDF, forces from the Commando Brigade along with the Givati Brigade reached the center of Khan Younis and are conducting "targeted raids in the heart of the city," eliminating Hamas militants and destroying the infrastructure of the terrorist group.

During one of the operations, as per the IDF's information, a weapons depot in a mosque was destroyed.

Background

Israeli military forces continue their ground operation against Hamas militants. They have already gained control of the northern part of the Gaza Strip, including Gaza City, the largest in the Palestinian enclave.

As of yesterday, December 5, Chief of Staff of the IDF Herzi Halevi announced that Israel had encircled Khan Yunis, the second-largest city in the Gaza Strip.
