As the New Year approaches, many people still struggle with how to beautifully wrap their gifts.
The Daily Express shares how to prepare holiday presents properly.
How to wrap gifts
Royal gift-wrapping expert Jane Means explains why most people get it wrong and shares simple tips that can turn any present into a small work of art.
Jane Means, who has wrapped gifts for the British royal family and numerous celebrities, says the most common mistakes include using too much or too little paper, making incorrect folds, and overusing tape. All of this makes the process more complicated and adds unnecessary stress.
Problems often arise because of small details: losing the end of the tape, running out of wrapping paper, or having to wrap a round or oddly shaped item.
The expert advises changing your approach and choosing a wrapping technique based on the shape of the gift.
What to know about gift wrapping
For boxes, double-sided tape is ideal, as it creates a neat, professional look without visible fastening. If the gift has an awkward shape, it’s better to choose flexible materials such as tissue paper, cellophane, or fabric. These materials wrap around items more easily and make the process much simpler.
For very large gifts, brown wrapping paper paired with a decorative ribbon or a bright accent strip down the center is a practical and stylish option.
Special attention should also be paid to gift tags. It’s best to label them in advance; otherwise, it’s easy to mix up presents once they all start to look the same.
