It is the body type that determines what style of clothing suits a person. Poorly chosen models can emphasize problem areas - visually fattening, shortening the height, etc. So before you create your personal style, you need to determine what type of figure you have, and that's what the stylist Oksana Matskiv helps with.

What are the types of body shapes?

"Body shaping is something everyone talks about. But no one talks about how to determine your body type and what additional areas you should pay attention to," says the stylist.

Depending on the proportions between shoulders, chest, waist, and hips, the following body types are distinguished

  • pear - small breasts, narrow shoulders, thin waist and wide hips
  • apple - slender legs, but the waist, abdomen and bust are larger than the hips
  • rectangle - approximately the same volume of the chest, waist and hips
  • hourglass - narrow waist, the same volume of the chest and hips (or a difference of no more than 4 cm)
  • inverted triangle - shoulders and bust are wider than hips

How to determine your body type

"The first thing you should pay attention to is the ratio of the proportions of the upper limb girdle and shoulders to hips. It is by assessing these proportions that we can indicate what type of figure you belong to - pear, apple, inverted triangle, rectangle, or hourglass," the stylist explains.

The next thing to pay attention to is the ratio of your torso to your legs.

"Assess whether your torso is too short or too long. Make sure your lower limbs are not too short. If so, correct it with clothes," says Matskiv.

She emphasizes that style is the art of creating illusions. And for this purpose, it is important for a person to know the strengths of his or her figure in order to emphasize them.

"We always emphasize those parts of the body that we expose. Most women have beautiful wrists, necks, and décolletage, some have a waist, others have slender legs. So find your strengths and focus the audience's attention on them," the stylist advises.
