Hezbollah official survives Israeli attack - Reuters
On Thursday, October 10, a senior representative of Hezbollah escaped an Israeli assassination attempt in Beirut. The individual in question is the head of Hezbollah’s liaison and coordination unit, according to Reuters.
According to sources in the security services, Wafiq Safa, who heads Hezbollah's liaison and coordination unit responsible for working with Lebanese security agencies, survived an attack by Israel on Thursday evening.
Earlier on Thursday, a source within the Lebanese security forces informed Reuters that Israeli airstrikes in central Beirut targeted at least one senior Hezbollah official backed by Iran.
Reuters specifies that Israeli strikes hit a densely populated residential area in the heart of Beirut, where apartment buildings and shops are located. Israel had previously not targeted this area.
The death toll from the attack rapidly rose. By late Thursday night, Lebanon's Ministry of Health reported 22 killed and 117 injuries.
Israel has yet to comment on the incident.
