Health checks that are important to undergo regardless of age
Healthcare awareness is of utmost importance, as preventing any illness is easier than treating it. It is advised to undergo specific examinations regardless of age, according to the Public Health Center.
Recommended screenings at any age include:
- annual check-up with a general practitioner
- abdominal and pelvic ultrasound every 1-2 years
- chest X-ray or fluorography annually or as per workplace health check requirements
- testing for hepatitis B, C, and HIV is recommended for those at risk, such as those in contact with blood or with frequent changes in sexual partners or non-sterile manicure tools
- regular dental check-ups (once or twice a year)
- examination by an otolaryngologist (ENT) once a year
- gynecological examination - once a year
- PAP test - every three years after the age of 21.
Mandatory check-ups after the age of 40 include:
- blood pressure control - seeking medical attention if above normal limits
- electrocardiography or echocardiography to assess heart function
- body weight measurement and calculation of body mass index are recommended to identify obesity, a risk factor for many diseases
- colorectal cancer screening - including annual fecal occult blood tests and colonoscopy every 10 years
- ophthalmologist examination - once every two years (or more often)
- ultrasound examinations for thyroid, pelvic organs and mammary glands in women
- thyroid, abdominal cavity, kidneys, prostate, and brachiocephalic arteries examinations in men, as men are prone to cardiovascular diseases.
Every patient who signs a declaration with a primary care physician has the right to a defined list of laboratory and diagnostic tests. During a medical appointment, the doctor can examine the patient, screen for specific diseases, and conduct rapid tests for infectious diseases.
Free diagnostic services include instrumental diagnostics such as electrocardiography, peak flowmetry, visual and auditory acuity measurements, consultation referrals, screening for mental health and behavioral disorders, early detection of HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections.
The package also includes general blood and urine tests, as well as analyses of cholesterol and glucose levels in the blood.
