The Hamas group has released three more Israeli hostages, who were captured during the attack on October 7, 2023, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Hamas has released 52-year-old Eliyahu Sharabi, 56-year-old Ohad Ben-Ami, and 34-year-old Or Levi, who were initially handed over to the Red Cross. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the three men have crossed into Israel, where they will undergo medical assessments.
The hostages had been held by Hamas for 491 days.
In exchange, Israel is expected to release 183 Palestinian prisoners, including 18 individuals sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to The Times of Israel, before transferring the hostages to the Red Cross, Hamas militants brought them on stage.
“These shocking images we saw today will not go unanswered,” said a statement from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israel-Hamas agreement
Israel and Hamas, with mediators, have reached an agreement for the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
As part of the deal, a ceasefire has been established in the Gaza Strip. Several exchanges have already taken place. Israel demands that Hamas ensure the safety of the hostages during the transfer.
Additionally, US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States may take control of the Gaza Strip. He also mentioned the possibility of relocating Gaza residents.
Why Trump wants control over Gaza and what the Middle East thinks about it is discussed in an article by RBC-Ukraine.
