Gynecologist on how to help yourself with stress
Stress can inflict considerable damage on women's health, leading to hormonal imbalances and amenorrhea. Gynecologist-endocrinologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Tetiana Tatarchuk shed light on how can women help themselves deal with stress.
What can a woman do to help herself without a doctor?
The doctor said that among the safe remedies women can take independently is magnesium.
"Magnesium is an essential element for the functioning of the nervous system, especially under conditions of chronic stress when its reserves are critically depleted due to the increased demand of nervous tissue for this macronutrient. Additionally, magnesium participates in collagen synthesis - a protein that ensures, among other things, the elasticity of the skin," Tatarchuk explained.
Nutrition is crucial
It's important not to forget that magnesium is present in various food products.
"Taking magnesium as a supplement is a safe option to support the female body. Let's also remember that magnesium is abundant in bananas, buckwheat, all nuts, cabbage, and red beets. I recommend diversifying the diet with fermented products, as they normalize the functioning of the intestines and the immune system, which also contributes to improving the body's condition and increasing stress resistance," the endocrinologist said.
Remember to eat properly, avoiding fatty and high-calorie foods that are usually craved during stress. Keep an eye on your weight.
"It's essential to adhere to the principles of proper nutrition and eat 2-3 times a day. Each new meal intake is an insulin spike, which is already excessive in times of stress. At the same time, when insulin levels rise, we tend to eat even more and start overeating due to stress. This leads to even greater insulin production, and the cycle repeats," Tetiana added.
