Greenland has set red lines that it cannot cross in negotiations with the United States, according to Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

"We are under pressure, serious pressure. We are trying to push back from the outside. We are trying to handle our people who are afraid, scared," Nielsen says.

According to him, Greenland has established some red lines that cannot be crossed, even in such a case, it will probably be possible to reach a certain agreement.

Prime Minister of Greenland also notes that Greenland and Denmark should strengthen surveillance and security measures in the region against the backdrop of Russia's actions.

Situation around Greenland

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly emphasized that Greenland is of strategic importance to US security, warning that if the island is not controlled, it could be taken over by Russia or China.

At the same time, on January 22, during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, an agreement was reached on a plan for Greenland, the details of which were not disclosed.

According to Axios, this agreement may include strengthening the US military presence on the island, as well as providing the US with certain preferences in the extraction of useful resources.

Against this backdrop, a limited but symbolic contingent of NATO forces was deployed to the island.

At the same time, according to Reuters, the US administration abandoned the idea of seizing Greenland due to the threat of impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.
