Germany plans to 'immediately' send more Patriot missiles to Ukraine
Germany has plans to "immediately" deliver an additional 64 guided missiles for the Patriot surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine, as ntv reports.
"This is a very important sign of solid support for the successful Ukrainian Armed Forces efforts in ensuring air defense, especially now, at this particular stage of the war," Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said during a NATO meeting in Brussels.
He added that the missiles will be provided to Ukraine without delay.
Patriot systems in Ukraine
Currently, Ukraine has two Patriot air defense systems. One battery was transferred by the United States and the other one by Germany in cooperation with the Netherlands. According to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine needs 50 Patriot batteries to effectively protect civilians against Russian attacks.
This American air defense system has already demonstrated successful results when it shot down a Russian hypersonic missile - the Kh-47 Kinzhal - over Kyiv for the first time.
