German government makes statement on Russia's return to SWIFT system

The German government is not aware of any changes to EU sanctions against Russia. In particular, about Russia's return to the SWIFT banking system, according to Reuters.
Answering a question about this issue at a regular press conference in Berlin, a German government spokesman said that SWIFT is headquartered in Belgium, which means that it is subject to EU law.
“I am not aware of any endeavours within Europe to lift these sanctions,” he added.
Easing of sanctions against Russia
Russia recently called on the West to ease sanctions. Among the conditions was the restoration of ties with the SWIFT system. These conditions, including the lifting of sanctions against Rosselkhozbank and other financial organizations involved in international food and fertilizer trade, are conditions for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The blocking of the SWIFT system for Russian banks is one of the sanctions measures against Russia imposed by the European Union and NATO aimed at weakening the country's economy and stopping its invasion of Ukraine.
