US President Donald Trump wants to quickly end Russia's war against Ukraine. But it is important not only to cease fire but also to ensure sustainable peace and security guarantees for Ukraine from other countries, DW cites German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

First of all, the minister believes, one should talk about a ceasefire, and then about sustainable peace for Ukraine, which means security guarantees from all other countries.

“Regardless of the agenda of Donald Trump, the White House, and the new administration, we have to take on a great responsibility,” Pistorius said.

He notes that if such a scenario is not enforced, the likelihood of a repeat Russian attack “in only a couple of years” is very high. It is this problem that Europe will have to face “in the coming months and years.”

The German defense minister does not like the idea of public discussions of the strategy “regarding any negotiations on the way to a ceasefire or even beyond.”

“It's not something we should discuss publicly, because otherwise, I might send an email to Vladimir Putin to tell him about our plans,” Pistorius said.

Trump wants to end war in Ukraine in 100 days

Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had instructed US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg to end the war in Ukraine in 100 days.

CNN also reported that Trump had instructed his aides to organize a phone call with Putin and preparations were allegedly already underway. He also called on Putin to stop the war against Ukraine, threatening Russia with tariffs and sanctions.

The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, said that if the timing of the war's end depended on Ukraine and the democratic world, it would be over tomorrow. The victory should lead to a just peace.
