French Prime Minister resigns after second round of parliamentary elections
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal will resign after the second round of parliamentary elections.
According to Attal, preliminary results of the parliamentary elections show that the presidential coalition he represents will not win a majority and will come in second place.
"Thus, true to republican traditions and in accordance with my principles, I will submit my resignation to the president tomorrow morning," the prime minister said.
At the same time, Attal was also elected to the French parliament. He won in the 10th electoral district of Hauts-de-Seine and will now be a member of the National Assembly.
Parliamentary elections in France
In France, the second round of parliamentary elections ended today. Unexpectedly, Marine Le Pen's pro-Russian National Rally party, which won the first round of voting, took only third place in the second round.
According to exit polls, the far-left New Popular Front came in first, and Emmanuel Macron's presidential coalition came in second.
