A recent study has shown that cheese can actually reduce the risk of sleep apnea.

According to the Mayo Clinic, sleep apnea is a disorder that occurs when breathing stops and starts during sleep. The most common form is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It leads to “fragmented sleep” and can also lead to more serious complications, such as cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, and metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, the study authors note.

Snoring and feeling tired after a good night's rest are two key signs.

How does cheese affect sleep apnea

The researchers found that higher cheese consumption correlated with a reduced risk of sleep apnea, especially by affecting the levels of 23 biomarkers of the disease, including blood pressure and testosterone levels.

Overall, this study highlights the complex relationships between diet, biomarkers, and sleep apnea, emphasizing the need for further research in different populations to increase the generalizability of these findings.
