'First call after battle is always to mom': Ukraine's chief spy wishes a happy Mother's Day

On Mother's Day, the Chief of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, thanked Ukrainian women for their strength, faith, and love, which supported defenders in the darkest times.
Budanov congratulated Ukrainians on Mother's Day and expressed gratitude to the dearest ones "for life and for the words that always help overcome the hardships of troubled nights and days."
"Among all the knowledge stored in our memory, the most secure place is held by a short combination of digits — a mother's phone number. The first call after a difficult battle, or after captivity, is always to mom. There are no moments more precious than those when life, kindness, love, and faith overcome death and darkness," Budanov wrote.
The chief of intelligence added that today, the sons and daughters of Ukrainian mothers are showing strength, dignity, and honesty in armed resistance, just as they were taught since childhood. He thanked them for that.
"Honor, respect, and gratitude to all Ukrainian mothers who gave birth to and raised a generation of the brave — those capable of fierce defiance against slavery and who are uncompromising in the face of injustice," Budanov emphasized.
He called on everyone to support, now and always, the mothers who lost their children in the war. Because, as he noted, "Ukraine stands only thanks to a son or daughter of a mother whose most precious loved one was taken by Russian forces."
"Let us support young mothers who are raising a new generation of Ukrainian citizens, while the fathers fight for our freedom. For all our mothers, for the unbreakable cycle of Ukraine's free existence — we continue the fight," Budanov stressed.
Notably, Ukraine celebrates Mother's Day on May 11 — one of the warmest and most heartfelt holidays of the spring season.
