Finnish Embassy in Moscow vandalized with paint and eggs
The fence of the Finnish Embassy in Moscow was spattered with paint and eggs. Finland sent a note to Russia in connection with the vandalism, reports Yle.
On Friday, November 1, the fence of the Finnish Embassy in Moscow was vandalized, Ambassador Marja Liivala told STT news agency. According to her, the fence had the words “The Åland Islands are ours” written on it in Swedish.
Eggs were also thrown at and through the fence. Liivala said the vandalism was committed by five men, who were quickly detained by police.
In response, Finland sent a note to Russia, reminding it of Russia's obligation to ensure the safety of the mission and its staff.
Finland took the incident seriously
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the incident unpleasant.
“Finland takes it seriously,” the Foreign Ministry's press service said.
Last year, Russian media claimed that a group of people had thrown an “explosive audio device” on the territory of their consulate in Finland. The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately responded to this claim.
