Fighting for Maryinka: Defense continues, Armed Forces hold enemy back
Ukrainian defense forces are holding back the enemy on the Maryinka front in the Donetsk region, and the defense of the city continues, informs the commander of the operational-strategic group of forces Tavria, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi.
"Maryinka front. The containment of the enemy in the areas of Novomykhailivka and Krasnohorivka is ongoing - 11 attacks repelled," the statement reads.
According to Tarnavskyi, in the Maryinka area, the enemy is amassing forces for further assault actions.
"Informational disinformation and provocations about the alleged complete capture of this city continue. The defense of Mariinka continues," added the commander.
Battles for Maryinka are located virtually adjacent to the occupied Donetsk. Intense battles began on the day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, during which the entire city's infrastructure was completely destroyed.
In early December, British intelligence reported that Russian forces were gradually advancing through the ruins of Maryinka, a city in the Donetsk region. Currently, Russia likely controls the majority of the built-up territory.
The spokesperson for the defense forces in the Tavria direction, Oleksandr Shtupun, stated that 90% of the battles are concentrated in the areas of Avdiivka and Mariinka.
The coordinator of the Information Resistance group, Kostiantyn Mashovets, believes that, operationally, Mariinka does not play a significant role. In his opinion, the Russians need a direction, so the capture of this city is important for the occupiers.
