As a result of the missile strike by the Russian Federation on Ukraine, basketball player Viktor Kobzystyi has tragically died, according to the Head of the Sports Department of the Lviv City Council, Anton Nikulin.

"Today, during the insidious shelling of our city by fascist rockets, Ukrainian basketball player, coach, and honored master of sports of Ukraine of international class Viktor Kobzystyi was killed. Condolences to his family and loved ones," wrote Nikulin.

What's known about Kobzystyi

Viktor, the basketball player, was 44 years old and originally from the Poltava region. He had been involved in sports since childhood, particularly drawn to basketball due to his tall stature.

In the years 2001 and 2005, Viktor played for the Ukrainian national team in the final stages. He finished his player's career in the summer of 2011.

Following his retirement as a player, he began working as an assistant coach for the Kyiv-based team Budivelnyk. By 2014, he had become the head coach for DniproAZOT in Dniprodzerzhynsk.

Since 2015, Viktor served as the president of the basketball club Kremіn. In one of his interviews, he spoke affectionately about the emblem of his club.

"It's an emblem in the shape of a basketball, but pay attention to the edges; they are non-standard for heraldry. They are not equal. What do they resemble? Yes, Kremenchuk. Two banks," he shared with enthusiasm.

Viktor was married and raised two sons.
