Late in the evening on October 14, explosions were heard in Russia’s Borisoglebsk, Voronezh region, followed by a large fire. A local military airfield was likely targeted, according to OSINT channels.
According to local residents, the explosions occurred amid a missile alert. A large fire is ongoing at the site, and the consequences are being clarified.
It is not yet known whether the airfield was indeed damaged and what exactly was hit there.
The airfield is home to the 783rd Training Aviation Center and units of the 105th Mixed Aviation Division. The division operates Su-34, Su-35, and Su-30SM aircraft, which the Russians use to strike Ukraine, including with guided aerial bombs.
In the summer of this year, no combat aircraft were permanently stationed at the airfield. The facility served as a transit point where aircraft refueled and received ammunition before flying sorties to Ukraine.
Strikes against Russia’s rear areas have continued for several nights in a row. On the night of October 14, dozens of explosions rang out in Balakovo, Saratov region, Russia, followed by a fire. The Sberbank megadata center, one of the largest in Russia, was likely targeted.
A few days earlier, on the night of October 11, drones disabled Yandex’s data center in Russia’s Vladimir region. Following the attack, dozens of services stopped working in Russia, and the company acknowledged that the facility had shut down.
This is not the first time Ukraine’s Defense Forces have attacked the Borisoglebsk airfield. In August 2024, it was struck by SBU drones. In October of the same year, warehouses containing guided aerial bombs, parking areas for Su-34 and Su-35 aircraft, and fuel storage facilities were targeted. Two more attacks on the airfield took place in July 2025 and July 2026.
