Explosions heard in Kyiv during drone attack, air defenses activated

Explosions were heard in Kyiv this morning, May 16. Air defense forces and equipment were active in the capital in response to the Russian drone attack, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration and Kyiv Mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
Explosions were heard in the Kyiv area at around 06:35 AM Kyiv time.
"Air defense forces are working to neutralize the threat in the skies over Kyiv. Please remain in shelters until the official all-clear signal," the administration reported.
Residents of Kyiv were also urged to follow safety precautions.
Earlier, the Air Force had warned of the detection of Russian UAVs heading toward the capital from the southwest.
"Explosions in the capital. Air defense is engaging Russian UAVs. Stay in shelters!" said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The air raid alert in the capital was lifted at 06:39 AM Kyiv time.
Overnight Shahed attack
On the night of May 16, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with strike drones, launching Shaheds from both the north and south.
Air raid alerts were issued in many regions due to the threat of drone strikes.
Around 04:00 AM Kyiv time, Russian UAVs were spotted in the Kyiv region, and air defense activity began in the area - kamikaze drones were heading toward the capital.
