Europe will welcome September with above-average temperatures. This will help replenish gas reserves and ease the start of the heating season, according to Bloomberg.

Summer continues

After a series of summer heat waves, Europe is preparing for a warmer-than-usual September. According to weather forecasters, this trend may continue into the beginning of the heating season in October.

"You’re coming off the back of a notably warm summer, it’s going to be difficult for it to be anything other than at least a little bit above average," said James Peacock, chief meteorologist at MetSwift in Leeds.

Forecasts

According to Meteo France, above-average temperatures may continue until the end of September and affect the beginning of winter in Central Europe. This will help the region replenish its gas reserves and reduce the risk of heat shortages during the cold season.

At the same time, the likelihood of a severe September heatwave is decreasing for the UK and northwestern Europe. However, MetDesk forecasts warm weather in Spain, Scandinavia, and Eastern Europe until the middle of the month.

Impact of climatic factors

Despite the likelihood of La Niña forming in the Pacific Ocean, September in Europe promises to be warm. According to the World Meteorological Organization, this phenomenon may occur as early as September, but it will not significantly cool global temperatures.

Peacock from MetSwift noted that warm air holds more moisture and intensifies storms. "The forecast modeling is very wet for the near future," he said.

Precipitation and water balance

The Met Office also expects frequent rainfall in September, but it will not be enough to make up for the water deficit after a dry and record-breaking hot summer. "We really do need more wet weather as we go through autumn, as we go through winter in order to help fill up the rivers and reservoirs," said Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill.

According to Germany's Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, the change of seasons will bring more cyclones and clouds, but the residual heat of the atmosphere and seas will remain. At the same time, the North Sea has seen record high temperatures this summer.

Energy aspect

Low pressure will contribute to increased wind generation in the UK, France, and Scandinavia until mid-September, said MetDesk meteorologist Ben Davies.

In Germany, wind speeds will improve until mid-September, but overall for the month may be below average, added MetDesk forecaster Emma Patmore.

Weather in Ukraine

The summer in Ukraine was not hot. The average monthly air temperature in Kyiv during the calendar summer of 2025 was 20.6 degrees Celsius. This is 0.2 degrees above the climatic norm.

The average monthly air temperature in August 2025 in Kyiv was 20.2 degrees Celsius, which is 0.2 degrees below the climatic norm.
