EU fails to agree on new sanctions against Russia, but Hungary is not reason
On Wednesday, June 12, the European Union member states failed to agree on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia. This time, the obstacle was not Hungary, but Germany, according to Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak.
"EU member states have still not come to an agreement on the latest EU sanctions package on Russia. New attempt on Friday evening. Surprisingly it’s Germany and not Hungary which is the biggest obstacle currently," the journalist says.
According to him, the EU countries will discuss the new package of sanctions again on Friday evening, June 14.
EU sanctions against Russia
Since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU has already imposed 13 sanctions packages against Russia. The 14th package of sanctions is currently being worked on and is expected to include additional restrictions against 21 Russian companies.
The new EU sanctions package against Russia will make it less likely for businesses to circumvent sanctions than the previous ones.
