Estonia to receive 6 HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems from US
Lockheed Martin in Arkansas has manufactured six new HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems for Estonia. They are to be handed over this summer, said Ramil Lipp, head of the weapons category at the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (RKIK).
He said that the HIMARS systems produced for Estonia were ready, that only some integration work remained to be done, and that they would be delivered by sea in the summer.
According to him, the supply of ammunition will begin this year and will continue in the following years. Among them are GMLRS, which are missiles with a range of up to 70 kilometers, and ATACMS with a range of up to 300 kilometers.
The contract for the purchase of HIMARS was signed between the US defense industry agency DSCA and RKIK in 2022.
Background
At the end of 2022, Estonia signed a contract with the United States for the purchase of HIMARS for more than $200 million. This is the country's largest defense purchase. The package will include various missiles with a range of 70 to 300 km.
The Estonian authorities are calling on NATO member states to increase defense spending due to Russian aggression.
