Erdogan preparing historic speech, ruling party teases key messages

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to deliver a historic speech, with counterterrorism efforts expected to be its main focus, according to Haberler.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to deliver a historic speech on Saturday, July 12, focused on the country’s path toward a "terror-free Türkiye."
This was announced by Ömer Çelik, spokesperson for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti), according to Haberler.
Çelik stated that "the state has used many methods in its fight against terrorism."
"Türkiye is now at a stage where all security forces are fulfilling their duties. Given the current conditions, there is now an opportunity for the terrorist organization to lay down its arms. Foreign powers in our region continue to use terrorist groups," he said.
The AK Parti spokesman added that "the process is unfolding according to our plan" and that "everything is being implemented within a matter of days."
As of now, no official details have been released about the full content of Erdogan’s upcoming speech.
President Erdogan is the leader of the AK Parti, which currently governs Türkiye.
Crackdown on opposition figures
In recent days, Türkiye has launched a case against opposition leader Özgür Özel for allegedly insulting the president.
Authorities have also detained the mayors of three cities from the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), citing an ongoing corruption investigation.
In March, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Erdogan’s main political rival, was also detained.
