Even with a balanced diet and regular physical activity, weight loss can vary from person to person. The process depends not only on calorie intake but also on other factors, including individual body characteristics and the quality of the diet.
Endocrinologist, therapist, and clinical diagnostics specialist Olena Domanska spoke about what people should pay attention to when it comes to nutrition.
It's not just about calories
According to the expert, the concept of "healthy eating" is often associated today with popular trends, calorie counting, or certain "superfoods." However, there is no universal approach that works equally well for everyone.
The endocrinologist emphasizes that it is important to focus not only on the amount of food consumed but also on its composition, variety, and level of processing.
Why gut health matters
The gut microbiome plays an important role in how the body functions. It is involved in digestion and the absorption of nutrients.
Naturally fermented foods, such as fermented vegetables, can be part of a balanced diet. Meanwhile, excessive consumption of highly processed foods may reduce microbiome diversity.
What to pay attention to
Domanska advises being more mindful of your daily diet and choosing foods that can easily fit into a balanced eating pattern.
Her recommendations include:
- prioritizing seasonal vegetables, fruits, and berries
- regularly adding a variety of vegetables to your meals
- limiting highly processed foods
- maintaining a diverse intake of protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates
- paying attention not only to what you eat but also to your eating schedule
Why there is no one-size-fits-all solution
The reasons behind difficulties with weight loss can vary. Weight can be affected by hormonal balance, physical activity levels, sleep, stress, underlying health conditions, and other individual factors.
That is why, if weight does not change for a long time despite efforts, it is worth not only reviewing eating habits but also consulting a doctor to identify possible causes and find an individualized approach.
A healthy lifestyle is not about strict restrictions or trendy diets, but about balanced nutrition, sufficient physical activity, and paying attention to your body's needs.
